Let the Madness ensue

Marcus Wirth

With the collection of the conference tournaments and the NCAA there are many great and memorable games with amazing plays and last second buzzer beaters. However, last year was a rarity as there wasn't many upset or game winners. This year many believe that with a wide open field there could be a Cinderella make it's way deep in the tournament much like George Mason did in the last time the Final Four was in Indianapolis in 2006. Well reassurance that this March might be one of the craziest in a while came an a thrilling game to kick off day two of the Big Ten's Mens Basketball Tournament.

Ohio State came in to the tournament as the number one seed and many believe are playing for a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes were taking on arch rival Michigan, who defeated Iowa handily yesterday. Michigan came out and played the Buckeyes very tough actually leading by as much as nine halfway through the first half. However, Ohio State would begin to pull away a little bit and eventually take a ten point lead in to the half, 35-25. I thought it was over. I thought there was no way Michigan could come back and take down one of th best teams in the Big Ten after trailing by as much as 13 around the nine minute mark.

Michigan was able to fight back and after some big threes Stu Douglsss and Manny Harris Michigan made it a very exciting basketball game. Manny Harris hit a pull up jumper on the right elbow to give the Wolverines a two point lead with 2.2 second left. After an Ohio State timeout Evan Turner may have cemented his case for National Player of the Year as with a 35-footer at the buzzer.

At this point in the season all teams are looking to do is survive and advance. Doesn't matter what teams records. Coaches and players will take wins anyway they can get them. I don't know what this win for Ohio State. Will it give them momentum through the the rest of the Big Ten tournament or did they use up too much energy just the beat a below .500 team by one point? We'll find out, but what I do know is Evan Turner's three-point buzzer beater officially kicked off the Madness that is March.
